Ben studied Japanese at Cambridge University, which is the obvious thing to do if you want to be a director, then worked at Fallon and DFGW in London before turning his hand to shooting comedy shorts and ads.
Early in his commercials directing career, Ben picked up two Gold Cannes Lions for his work with Droga5 and Puma, and from there added Gold Clios and British Arrows for clients such as McDonald’s, Foster Farms, Mastercard, OnePlus, Peugeot, KFC, Turbo Tax, and KING Games.
When not directing ads, Ben keeps himself busy in the Film and TV world, collaborating with the likes of David Cross, Spike Jonze, Sharon Horgan, Will Arnett and John Hamm on the TV Show Todd Margaret. Over the years, Ben has directed such comedy talent as Martin Freeman, Mackenzie Crook, Johnny Vegas, Ashley Jenson, Martin Clunes and The Muppets’ Swedish Chef.
Ben’s first feature All Stars 3D for Vertigo Films was a box office triumph in the UK in 2013, and his second feature, the documentary Fatherhood, premieres in New York in March 2018.
A passionate skateboarder, Ben staged the art exhibition http://humbleandepic.com in London and LA in 2016, the proceeds of which went to Skateistan, a grassroots NGO that uses skateboarding to connect at-risk youth with educational opportunities.
