Declan Lowney is a very funny Irish Film and Television Director. He has directed many of the UK's best-loved TV comedies, from the cult hit Father Ted, to the comedy juggernaut Little Britain. He's a six-time BAFTA Nominee and two-time BAFTA winner for comedy direction, and two of his shows have won International EMMYs.
Declan's work is characterized by a light comic touch, and warm, sparkling performances. He has that canny knack of capturing the emotional beats of a story, while still keeping it funny. In the last few years Declan directed...
Chris O'Dowd's Emmy winning comedy Moone Boy ("...the biggest and best surprise of the year" Hollywood Reporter).
Steve Coogan's hilarious No1 UK box-office movie, Alan Partridge - Alpha Papa ("... a scissor-sharp comedy of ineptitude and failure, crisply directed by Declan Lowney" Variety).
And Idris Elba's childhood memoir In The Long Run ("...the most surprising sit-com of this decade" THE SUNDAY TIMES) ("Lowney does it loud, he does it broad and he does it well LONDON EVENING STANDARD). In The Long Run won the UK Broadcast Digital Award for Best Comedy 2018.
Declan has a parallel career in advertising, directing high end comedy and celebrity performance commercials. His long-running Warburtons bread campaign has featured performances from Sylvester Stallone, The Muppets and Peter Kay (the latter won the coveted Best Ad of the Week Worldwide in AdForum). Declan's latest UK TV spot stars Robert De Niro, channeling his Goodfellas/Casino personas to great effect in a British bagel war. The Guardian newspaper called it De Niro's "best work in living memory"!
But Declan is a sucker for the sunshine, and is working in LA more and more; he directed the pilot Damaged Goods in 2015, two episodes of the comedy/ fantasy/musical Galavant in 2016, two episodes of American Housewife in 2017, all for ABC studios. In 2018 he directed the TV Land comedy Teachers. He is especially proud of his upcoming show for Apple TV, TED LASSO starring Jason Sudeikis.
