Her short dark comedy, NEW MEDIA premiered at Sundance where it won several awards. And in 2008 her short doc Unattached won a Student Oscar, inspiring her mother to drop the word “student” and refer to her daughter as an “Oscar winner” forevermore.

In the summer of 2020, Adler launched her own full service US commercial production company, Ruckus Films which represents a small roster of talented directors including JJ herself. Outside of the US, she’s on the roster of Circle Productions in Canada, HunkyDory Films in the UK, Soup Film in Berlin, and Hobby Film in Scandinavia. In 2018 she released a short film, Places, Thank You Places written by and starring Gary Richardson (SNL).

JJ directed sketches all across Netflix’s critically acclaimed Astronomy Club: The Sketch Show, which premiered December 6th 2019. Currently, she’s either working on her first feature, directing commercials, or talking to her dog in a truly insane voice.

JJ Adler holds an M.F.A. in film directing from Columbia University and thinks advanced film degrees are of dubious value.
