Nick began writing and directing award-winning short films in 2003, culminating in his third film “Shoe” being shortlisted to the last 10 in the Live Action Shorts category of the 2011 Academy Awards.

Nick’s wrote and directed his debut feature film “The Drummer And The Keeper”, funded by the Irish Film Board under their Catalyst scheme. Produced by Calico Films, “The Drummer And The Keeper” premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2017, where it won Best Irish First Feature.

“The Drummer And The Keeper” has subsequently won 18 major awards on the international film circuit, including Best Film at the Cleveland International Film Festival, Best Foreign Film at the Newport Beach International Film Festival and the Silver Award at the Emden-Norderney International Filmfest. It received 5 nominations at the 2018 IFTAs, including Best Screenplay for Nick’s script, with Jacob McCarthy winning the Rising Star for his portrayal of Christopher in the film. Nick’s screenplay was also one of three nominees at the 2018 Irish Writers Guild ZeBBie Awards for Best Feature Film Script.

In 2019 Nick established The Story Works, an innovative independent TV writers room with the aim of generating long form television ideas with global potential. The first session of The Story Works was funded by Green Pavilion Entertainment and has resulted in the commissioning of two separate TV pilot scripts.

“Bedsitterland”, a new feature film written and to be directed by Nick was selected for participation in the Berlinale Co-Production Market in February 2020. “Bedsitterland” is being produced by Samson Films (Ireland) and A Private View (Belgium), and has received development support from Screen Ireland.

In addition to his work as a film-maker, Nick is one of Ireland’s most highly-regarded advertising creatives, responsible for award-winning campaigns for clients as diverse as AIB, the Green Party, Walkers Crisps and most notably Guinness for whom he wrote five major TV spots, including the Clio-winning “Tom Crean”, and “Quarrel” starring Michael Fassbender.

He has directed TV and online commercial films for Barry’s Tea, AIB, SSE Airtricity, the Irish Film Archive, SVP and the Simon Communities.

Nick is also a Choice Music Prize-nominated musical artist, and an Ian St James Award-winning short fiction writer.
