Film Director. Documentary & Commercial. Sydney & New York.
Selina Miles is an Australian Director who has worked in over 20 countries worldwide with representation in Sydney, New York, Paris and London. She began her career as an editor of online content before moving into directing commercials, and most recently working on her first feature documentary, supported by Screen Australia and Submarine Entertainment.
Selina applies her vibrant and energetic style to all she does, specializing in a range of technological tricks such as hyper-lapse and stop-motion. More recently she has shown new strengths in directing content featuring non-actors, and ongoing interest in crafting compelling docu-style films.
Commercially, Selina has worked with brands such as JD Sports, Pepsi, Red Bull and Ubisoft. She has created music videos for The Hilltop Hoods, Northlane and most recently for UK pop star Anne Marie. Her work on Carefree’s “Meet the Matriarchs” campaign in 2018 achieved a Glass Spike Award for Change.
After studying a Bachelor of Multimedia Design at University of Queensland, Selina discovered a passion for film making, and went on to direct a series of videos for ARIA-award winning band “The Hilltop Hoods,” including “Shredding the Balloon,” winner of a silver ACS award in 2012. Her music video “Rattling the Keys to the Kingdom” was nominated for Music Video of the Year in Triple J’s J Awards. In 2013, Selina self-produced a range of hyper-lapse videos featuring artist Sofles. The second in this series, entitled “Limitless” was released on Youtube in October 2013 and quickly gained over 12 million views.
2016 saw Selina progress into the documentary field, self-producing a series of films on Vimeo entitled “Portrait of an Artist.” The second of these was awarded a Staff Pick on Vimeo, and the series has gathered just under 150,000 views. This led to the creation of “The Wanderers,” a 6 x 10 minute documentary series which premiered on ABC iView in 2017 and went on to achieve distribution in America and Europe.
